Frequently asked questions
Short answers about how PowerTodo works and what it will and will not do.
What is PowerTodo?
A task manager for people with a lot of work. You capture a task by typing one line, such as "Fix checkout bug @rahul #payments !P0 due:tomorrow", and PowerTodo turns it into a task with an assignee, project, priority and due date. Everything else, from moving tasks to bulk edits, runs from the keyboard.
Who is it for?
Engineers, managers, founders, consultants and anyone else who juggles hundreds of tasks across several projects, hands work to other people and needs to see what is blocked. If a simple checklist is enough for you, PowerTodo is more than you need.
How do I add a task?
Type the task and press Enter. Add markers anywhere in the line if you want: @ for a person, # for a project, + for a tag, !P0 to !P3 for priority, due: and start: for dates, and ~ for an estimate. The cursor stays in place for the next task.
Do I have to learn the syntax first?
No. Plain text works, and every field can also be set from the keyboard after the task exists. Autocomplete suggests people, projects and dates as you type, so the syntax is learned by using it.
What is the difference between a project, an area and a tag?
A project is an outcome that finishes, such as "Launch website". An area is a responsibility that never finishes, such as Work, Finance or Health. A tag is a label that cuts across both, such as +deep-work or +client. Tasks can also nest under other tasks, as deep as you need.
Can I use PowerTodo without a mouse?
Yes. Creating, editing, completing, indenting, moving, assigning, prioritising, scheduling, searching and bulk-editing all have keyboard shortcuts, and the command palette (Ctrl+K, or Cmd+K on a Mac) reaches every command by name.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Tasks are saved on your device first, so you can view, create, edit and complete them without a connection. Changes sync to your other devices when you are back online.
Which platforms does it run on?
The web app comes first and works in any modern browser on desktop or phone. Native iOS and Android apps follow, using the same account and the same tasks.
Can I use it now?
PowerTodo is in development. The web app opens first at ptd.pi3.in. Until then, the capture line on the home page shows how task entry works.
Does PowerTodo use AI?
Not unless you switch it on. Planned AI features include turning plain sentences into tasks, breaking large tasks into steps and suggesting a plan for the day. They will be optional, will suggest rather than change your tasks, and will send only the data needed for the request you make.
Can I export my tasks?
Yes. Export to JSON, CSV and Markdown is part of the core product, with enough detail to rebuild your tasks in another tool.
Who can see my tasks?
Only you, and people you choose to share a project with. PowerTodo has no advertising and does not sell data.
How do I report a security issue?
Follow the steps on the security page. It explains what to include and how reports are handled.
Who makes PowerTodo?
PowerTodo is built by Prisha iCube. Use Contact at the bottom of any page to get in touch.
